Through the years we have moved from the children's section with puppets and tiny chairs to the beginning readers. From the Junie B. Jones series and The Diary of the Wimpy Kid to the preteen romance novels Borders has been a part of the tapestry of our families learning and growing up process.
When my daughter Ashley heard they were closing she was in tears. Her favorite outing was always the book store. She loves her books and holds on to them for dear life. She is so opposed to the Kindle or the Nook and she is fighting technology tooth and nail.
So as a family we are losing a big part of our past when they close the doors at Borders for the last time. We have many memories that were made there and many memories snuggled together reading our favorite books together.
I know there will be other ways to get our books in the future but I am sure it will be nothing quite like wandering through the aisles together falling in love with reading.

I know exactly how your daughter feels. The first time I walked into a Borders (which I had gone to my whole life) that was liquidating, I fought tears the whole time. I'm 26 and refuse to get an e-reader too (my mom loves hers though). It's just not the same. And last month, when I was in yet another Borders on its way out, I was overcome with sadness and even a sense of panic when I realized there aren't too many other book stores out there where we can wander for hours and discover books we never knew existed. Finding new authors and books online just isn't the same and downloading a "book" will never be the same as walking out with an armful of physical books — that you can smell and mark up and fold the pages of and line up on a shelf!
